Description

This is a 17th-century house, later used as a public house, and now incorporated into the adjoining building at No.7. The building has undergone alterations in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. It is timber-framed and faced with stucco above a cement plinth. The roof is tiled, with a margin of Welsh slate, and features a moulded eaves cornice below fascia mouldings. There are also two box dormers with divided casement windows, and a red brick chimney stack with two pots. The house is two storeys and has an attic. It has two 19th-century flush-set sash windows on each upper floor, with divided glazing. A wooden band runs along the lintel level of the ground floor, and there are also two flush-set sash windows with divided glazing on the ground floor. The central entrance has a four-panel door, with two flush panels and two glazed panels, recessed within a reveal framed by an eared architrave, a decorative frieze, and a pediment with modillions. A passageway was originally present on the right side of the house, but is now closed. The ground floor has been opened out and reveals exposed timber studding. There is a modern brick extension with a hipped tiled roof facing the rear yard. Until the 1960s, it was known as The Bell and Sun Public House.
