Description

These are a pair of semi-detached houses dating to around 1825, with alterations and extensions added in the 20th century. The front of the houses is stuccoed and has hipped roofs covered in Welsh slate, featuring a moulded cornice with widely spaced modillions and a central multi-flue brick chimneystack.

The houses are three storeys high and have a four-bay front with recessed single-bay three-storey wings. To the left and right are later two-storey extensions with castellated parapets. The second floor has four recessed windows with six panes to each sash, with a band and swag frieze above. The first floor features four recessed windows with twelve panes per sash, above a band with honeysuckle ornament. The ground floor has four recessed windows with fifteen panes to each sash, each set within an outer arched recess with a projecting impost band, and a stucco plinth. The recessed wings have arched recesses on the ground floor, with entrance doors beneath semicircular fanlights and single sashes on the first and second floors. The later wings, from the early 20th century, include projecting bay windows on the ground floor.

The interior was not inspected. These houses were built as part of the expansion of Hertford along North Road towards the County Hospital in the late 1820s and were originally named 'North Crescent' on a map from 1830. Number 33 was originally listed on 12 April 1973.
