Description
The barn and south stable at Manor Farm, located 15 metres southwest of the house in Little Hadham, date from the 17th century or earlier. The barn is a three-bay, timber-framed structure that is weatherboarded and faces east, featuring a steep thatched roof that is hipped to the south and gabled to the north. The eaves are higher in the central bay to accommodate a double doorway. It has jowled posts with long curved braces supporting the tie beams, low walls, and a steep, lofty roof. Originally, it had a single framed, collar rafter roof, but it is now propped with purlins. There is a high door in the north gable. Attached to the south end of the east side is a lower timber-framed stable, which has a thatched gabled roof and clasped purlin roof construction. This group of timber-framed buildings is notable for its archaic roof construction in the thatched barn.
