Description
Top Barn at Clintons, located 60 metres north-northwest of the house, is a 17th-century barn. It is tall and consists of five bays with a single aisle, facing east. The structure has a timber frame that is weatherboarded on a red brick sill laid in English bond. The barn features a steep gabled roof that extends over the west aisle, which is now covered in corrugated iron. The middle bay is wider and includes double doors on the east side, along with low doors in the rear wall of the aisle. The barn has swept jowled posts, curved braces supporting the arcade plate, and long curved braces connecting to the tie beams. The roof is a queen strut clasped purlin design without collars, supported by light rafters intended for thatch. There is a central post in the end walls and mid-height rails that are tennoned in line. This barn is part of a group at Clintons manor.
