Description

Black Cottage is a late 17th-century house located on the south side of Butlers Hall Lane, near Butlers Hall. Originally a timber-framed building, it is now externally rendered with 2 iron tie plates and segmental-headed openings on the south front. The house has a steep, gabled roof covered in old red tiles. There are large external brick gable chimneys at each end, with the eastern chimney being larger. Modern wood casement windows have been installed. Pantiled lean-to additions have been made on the north side. A large 19th-century cast iron pump, featuring a fluted cap, spurred spout, and curved wrought iron handle, stands at the east end of the house.
