Description

The Old Forge is a house dating to the 17th century, with later alterations and additions. It presents as partly 1½ storeys and partly 2 storeys, with a timber frame on a stuccoed sill. The exterior is largely roughcast, featuring a steep red tile roof facing south. The building is five bays wide, with a door, window, a further door, two windows, and a hipped dormer window in the roof between bays 3 and 4. It has Arts and Crafts plank doors with leaded lights, set beneath moulded hoods with braces, and matching 3-light flush casement windows. On the left return there is a 20th-century bay window at ground floor level and a casement in the gable, which shows exposed timber framing. The right return has a large chimney against the wall, and is set back a further two bays, with half-timbering at first floor level. Inside, there is substantial exposed timber framing, including a wall where the infilling has been removed to create an open screen between the hall and sitting room.
