Description

Blue Court is a house that has been converted into offices, originally built in 1830, as indicated on the east gable. It underwent renovations in 1981, which included a reconstructed interior and the addition of a gabled rear wing and east terrace. The building is constructed of buff brick with red rubbed brick arches and features rusticated stucco at the basement level. It has a moulded wooden cornice at the eaves and pediments, topped with a slate roof.

This large, symmetrical classical villa is two stories tall, with attics and a basement that extends to the east under the terrace. It faces south, with a west gable that looks onto High Street. The south front is five windows wide, with an advanced central section featuring three windows, a pediment, and an oval window in the tympanum. The entrance has a heavy pilastered doorcase with an entablature, leading to central double doors that are topped by a rectangular fanlight and accessed by six stone moulded steps.

The recessed sash windows have 6/6 panes and flat gauged arches. The ground floor windows flanking the door are set in arched recesses with narrow impost blocks that connect to the door surround. The west gable features a pediment with an oval attic window, a triple sash window on the first floor, and a similar ground floor window set in a large arched recess. Twin projecting chimneys rise through the raking pediment, creating a sweeping curve on either side, and have corbelled oversailing tops. The east terrace is surrounded by a balustrade with dies. The building was formerly known as Pole House.
