Description

The Clayes is a 16th to 17th century timber-framed house that has been altered and expanded in the 18th century and later. It is built on an L-shaped plan with wings extending to the east and south. The eastern wing and part of the southern wing have been restored, featuring exposed timber-framing with modern brick nogging. The southern wing was either refronted or added in the 18th century. The house has two storeys and attics. The restored section includes casement windows with leaded lights, while the southern wing has a range of four double-hung sash windows with glazing bars.
