Description
The Priory is a late 14th century house of high quality, with alterations and a facade from the 18th century. It is timber framed and plastered, topped with a roof of grey slate and red plain tiles. The building has three storeys and features a three-window range of double hung vertical sliding sashes with glazing bars. The first floor windows have side lights, and there is a central door at the first floor with a moulded segmental head. A balcony with iron balustrading is located above the ground floor bow windows. The ground floor doors have flat hoods supported by brackets and pilasters, and the door at the north west end is an 18th-century six-panel design. The building has a modillioned eaves cornice. Inside, much of the original frame remains, including jowled storey posts, cambered tie beams, and a four braced crown post roof. There are also extensive wall paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries.
