Description

Mortimers is a timber-framed and plastered building with 18th-century external features, situated on School Street in Great Chesterford. An older wing extends to the rear, likely dating back to the 16th century. The building comprises one storey and attics. It has casement windows, and a tiled roof with two gabled dormers on the front, one of which bears a plaque dated 1711. The interior contains a fine 15th-century hearth beam carved with cusped gothic arches, although it was likely inserted later from another building. There is also an early 18th-century corner cupboard, dated 1705, featuring a domed niche and original painting.
