Description
The Church of St Mary the Virgin is a small church located in Little Chesterford. It features an undivided nave and chancel, with the earliest architectural details dating back to the 13th century. The church underwent significant restoration in the 19th century. The chancel was rebuilt in the 14th century, and a north porch was added in the 15th century. Additionally, a vestry and a bellcote were constructed in the 19th century. Inside, there are early 13th-century lancet windows in the nave, a 15th-century font, a chancel screen from the 15th to 16th century, and a monument to James Walsingham, who died in 1728, featuring a life-size seated figure. There is also a brass memorial for Isabel Langham, who died in 1462. The church is recognized for its historical significance and notable internal features.
