Description
This is an early 17th-century timber-framed barn located at Fanns Farm, Great Canfield. It is a 3-bay threshing barn with a transept entrance on the north side and a north aisle. The barn has weatherboard cladding and a corrugated steel sheet roof. A concrete plinth replaces the original brick plinth. The transept features double steel doors, and a stable door is present on the south side.
The interior has three principal framed bays with jowled principal studs linked by cambered tie beams on arched braces. Longitudinal arched braces extend to the wall plate, and the collars have one tier of clasped purlins; there is no ridge piece. Secondary studs and a middle rail are found on all internal elevations. The east and west gable walls incorporate arched braces from the middle rail to the principal corner studs. A lean-to north aisle is situated on either side of the north transept, featuring scarf-jointed rafters. The transept roof also includes collars and one tier of clasped purlins.
