Description
Richmonds is a late 14th century house with a cross-wing at the west end, which was altered in the late 16th century and early 19th century. The building is timber framed and plastered, featuring a 19th century grey gault brick facade and a grey slate roof. It has two storeys and the cross-wing is gabled and jettied. The house has a one, three-window range, with modern casements and 19th century double hung vertical sliding sashes that include glazing bars. There are 17th century, 15th century, and modern extensions at the rear. Inside, the 14th century cross-wing frame is nearly intact, showcasing stop-chamfered beams, steeply cambered tie beams, spandrel brackets, and a cross-wing post roof. The main range was largely rebuilt in the late 16th century, featuring jowled storey posts and a side purlin roof that reuses sooted rafters from the original open hall. The interior includes some 17th century and 18th century doors, as well as reused 17th century balusters and a handrail for the staircase. The building also has red brick chimney stacks.
