Description

The Church of All Saints is a Grade I listed building primarily from the 14th and 15th centuries, with some clerestorey windows dating to the 16th century, as noted in a will from 1527. The church features a west tower, a nave with north and south aisles, and a chancel, along with chapels located in the north-east, north-west, and south. Noteworthy elements include the south chapel, which has an impressive early 14th-century kingpost roof with a quatrefoil post, a moulded capital, and four-way braces. The chapel and chancel are divided by a two-bay early 14th-century arcade. The nave arcades and chancel arch date from around 1400, while the chancel and aisles boast roofs from the 14th and 15th centuries. Several 14th-century windows can be found in the south aisle, the north wall of the north-west chapel, and the south chapel. The west tower features a stepped parapet, a spire, angle buttresses, and an early 14th-century window. Inside, there is an early 16th-century altar tomb with cusped panels and an early 16th-century achievement of arms, both associated with the Tyrrel family. The church underwent restoration in the 18th and 19th centuries and is located away from the current village, near the hall and former Guildhall. It is recognized for its architectural and historical significance.
