Description

Lower House Farmhouse is a 15th-century timber-framed hall house with cross wings at the north and south ends. The house was altered in the 16th and 17th centuries, including the insertion of a floor into the main hall and fireplaces. 18th-century features were also added to the exterior. The wings are two storeys high, while the central block has a single storey and attics. The front elevation has a symmetrical three-bay arrangement of double-hung sash windows with glazing bars. A modern gabled porch projects from the front. The roof is tiled, with chimney stacks at each end and a gabled dormer on the front of the central block. Inside, original features include a cambered beam with a crown post, a 16th-century panelled room, moulded ceiling beams and joists, and fireplaces dating from the 16th to 17th centuries.
