Description
Widdington Hall is a 15th-century moated hall house that underwent significant alterations in the 16th century when a long five-bay wing was added to the north, creating an L-shaped layout. The south front of the main block features three gables of varying sizes and a modern gabled porch. The north wing, currently used as a barn, has a red brick wall with black brick diapering on the west side and a timber-framed and plastered east wall with a weather-boarded base. On the west side, there is part of a brick crow-stepped gable with a chimney stack behind it. Adjacent to this is an early 17th-century wing that includes a small staircase projection at the west end. The windows throughout the building are modern casements, and the roofs are tiled, featuring a large square internal chimney stack in the main block. Inside, there is the original doorway leading from the former hall to the buttery wing, and an open fireplace is located in the west wall of the present kitchen. A significant amount of the original roof construction remains, although only part of the moat is still visible.
