Description

Tooleys Farmhouse is a late 16th-century farmhouse with 20th-century additions, situated on a moated manor site. The original long block runs north-south. It has 2-storey extensions at both the north and south ends, a continuous rear lean-to, a 2-storey porch of the same period, and a single-storey and attic extension projecting north from the northern wing. The farmhouse is primarily timber-framed and plastered, with some brickwork and reused timber members visible. The roof is of gabled peg tiles, with a ridgeline stack and a large lean-to dormer on the west elevation. This elevation retains an original arched doorhead. All windows are 20th-century oak with leaded lights.

The interior reveals significant remains of a substantial late 16th/early 17th-century house, including a double-sided inglenook fireplace, stop-chamfered bridging joists, long elegant jowls, a tie beamless roof that originally featured unusual 'V' struts, and stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
