Description

A range of eight terraced houses, numbered 35 to 49, rises from north to south. They were built around 1810, as indicated by a date plaque. The houses are constructed of red brick, with some burnt headers and scored pointing, and have peg-tiled roofs. They follow a rectangular plan.

The front elevation, facing west, is uniform in design. Each house has a two-window range and a central front door, with steps leading alternately to the doorways. The doorways are topped by cornice hoods, supported by plain friezes and jambs. Original four-panel doors remain at numbers 35 and 37. The windows are paired casements in chamfered wooden frames, fitted with cast-iron casements containing 2x5 panes of glazing bars. The stacks (chimney stacks) are centrally located between each pair of houses.

The rear elevation, facing east, features integral brick lean-to extensions with catslide roofs. The doors and windows visible from the rear are 20th century replacements. Most of the houses have had two-storey additions built onto the rear, featuring lean-to extensions with pitched or flat roofs. These additions do not project beyond the original rear building line; some may have a later 19th-century origin.
