Description
Nos. 1 and 2 Peppers Green are two joined cottages located in Margaret Roding. No. 1 is a 17th-century lobby-entrance house, while No. 2 is a 19th-century extension. The buildings are timber-framed, plastered, and have tiled roofs.
No. 1 consists of three bays aligned northeast-southwest, facing northwest, and features an original chimney stack in the middle bay that creates the lobby entrance. There is a lean-to extension with a slate roof from the 19th century. It is a single-storey building with attics, and it has 20th-century casement windows, with the upper windows set in two gabled dormers. Inside, there are stop-chamfered beams with lamb's tongue stops in the northeast room only, while the joists are of vertical section and unchamfered. The upper part of the chimney in the roof was reduced in size during the 19th century.
No. 2 has two bays and features a 19th-century chimney stack at each end. It has 20th-century windows, with the upper windows also located in gabled dormers. No. 2 is listed for its group value with No. 1.
