Description
This group of barns and outbuildings is located approximately 30 metres north of Ryes Farmhouse and dates from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. The structures are primarily timber framed with black weatherboarding, although there are two buildings made partly of red brick at the northeast corner. Most roofs are covered with peg tiles. The layout forms a large 'E' shape, linking several barns and outbuildings.
The northwest range features a half hipped roof and has three separate rear lean-tos, one of which has a pantile roof. The long northeast range includes a gabled midstrey, with a dovecote located in the gable on its southwest side, along with a smaller lean-to. Attached to this elevation is a small outbuilding with a pantile roof. At the northwest corner, there is a red brick granary that incorporates 17th-century doors reused on the first floor. To the south of this granary is an open-sided cartshed and a small building resembling a granary, which also has a half hipped roof. The group is included for its collective historical value.
