Description

Little Hallingbury Park is a house dating from the 16th to the 20th century, and restored following a fire in 1982. It comprises a two-range timber-framed and plastered building with a prominent gable and projecting crosswing. Modern extensions are present to the rear, and a lean-to adjoins the front left side. The house is two storeys high, with a red plain tile roof and a 20th-century ornate chimney constructed of moulded red brick, featuring two octagonal shafts. The timber framing is heavy, with moulded and stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, and ovolo mullions are visible in some rooms. Notable features include a good early 18th-century staircase, fireplaces from the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries, carved grotesque brackets on some wall posts, and two arched openings of presently unknown purpose, all indicating a building of very high quality.
