Description

The Elm is a 16th-century timber-framed building located on Dunmow Road in Start Hill. It features modern roughcast facades and an old red tile roof, standing two storeys tall. The building has three modern casement windows on both the ground and first floors, with a door situated under a flat hood in a slight recess. There is a slight projection on the south side and a chimney stack located on the north gable end facing the road. Inside, the building showcases much exposed timber framing, a mullioned 16th-century window at the south end of the first floor, and a queen post roof supported by a cambered, chamfered tie beam.
