Lodge on S side of Audley End Park, adjacent to gateway (qv) and contiguous with S boundary wall of the park (qv). 1827. Possibly by Buckler and Rickman. Brick, red and yellow, and flint with clay tiled roof. Single storey and attic. T shaped plan of original building aligned N-S and C20 extension central on E side. W front elevation: yellow brick, symmetrical 2 window range of double casements in chamfered reveals with labels, wooden frames with hollow chamfered central mullion, glazing bars, 4x4 panes, flush-work knapped flint panels round windows. Central projecting red brick porch with diagonal buttresses, parapet and moulded string course lifted in centre over roundel. Archway has 4-centred arched head, as has inner doorway, door framed with recessed panels, upper panels of lancet form. S end elevation: red brick similar to boundary wall either side through which house projects slightly. Single central 2-light casement window with label and similar to those on W front. Shaped and pierced barge-boards with prominent central pendant. N end elevation: yellow brick with knapped flint gable and flush-work panels, barge-boards as on S end elevation. Central 3-cant bay window with lower flint flush-work panels, shaped cornice and parapet with coping. Central 3-light casement window with glazing bars, 6x5 panes, side cants have similar single casement windows 2x5 panes, above, attic light, 4-centred arched, plain glazing. On left hand side, end of triple grouped octagonal chimney shafts in moulded red brick, shaped heads and moulded bases, rises from junction of C19 block and C20 extension. 2 gabled dormer windows with sliding sashes, glazing bars, 4x3 panes each set either side of grouped stacks. C20 extension to E: of red brick slightly lower in height with hipped roof with gablets at E and W ends. Long sides, N and S have 3 C20 double casement windows with glazing bars, 4x5 panes. E end has French window with glazing bars, each leaf of 3x7 panes. INTERIOR not inspected. (The Buildings of England: Pevsner N & Ratcliffe E: Essex: London: 1965-: 65).
