Description
Elsenham Place is a 16th to 17th century timber-framed and plastered house located on Henham Road in Elsenham. The building features cabled wings that extend at the east and west ends of the north front, with the east wing also extending south at the rear, showcasing exposed timber framing on the west side. The gabled wings on the north front are jettied on the first storey. The house underwent renovations in the 20th century, which included panels of ornamental pargetting. It has two storeys and attics, with modern casement windows that have ornamental leaded lights. The roofs are tiled. Inside, there is some woodwork that was salvaged from The Close on High Street in Saffron Walden when it was demolished in 1937, along with a wood overmantle that came from Beaufort House in Chelsea.
