Description

Linsell House and Post Office is a house and post office stores dating from the 17th and 19th centuries. It has two storeys and features a plain red tile double range roof with varying colour striations and zigzags. The building is constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior. It has a five-window range of 18th-century small paned sash windows.

To the right, there is a plain red tile porch that leads to a 19th or 20th-century shop front with a central door. On the left, three steps lead up to a six-panelled house door, which has a frieze and a flat canopy above, with a plain handrail along the steps. Set back to the left is a red brick extension with a plain red tile roof, featuring one casement window facing Braintree Road, an 18th-century vertical sliding sash window, and a plain board door facing Bury Chase.

At the rear, the left roof line includes a gabled crosswing outshot that rises to two storeys, along with a single-storey outshot area that has a gabled dormer. To the right, there is a two-storey red brick extension with various casement windows. The complex is topped with three red brick chimney stacks. The building holds group value with the nearby church and churchyard, as well as with the village centre.
