Description
Heathfield Cottage is a house dating from the early 16th century or late 15th century. It features a timber frame and plaster exterior with a gabled peg tile roof and a central ridge line stack. To the west, there is a single-storey timber-framed and plastered extension, likely from the 17th century, which has a peg tile roof that is gabled against the main block and hipped at the west end, with a lean-to on the north side. The front of the cottage has two 19th-century three-light casement windows on each floor and a 20th-century gabled porch. The gable ends are adorned with 19th-century bargeboards. Inside, the cottage reveals a former long wall jetty on the north side and the structure includes a parlour/solar bay, a hall bay, and a narrower cross passage with a screen of arch-braced 'speres'. The frame is of good quality, featuring a crown post roof and chamfered bridging joists, with floor joists that are soffit tennoned. The low range has jowled storey posts and is likely a 17th-century service wing.
