Description
Clacton Grove House is a house located in Little Clacton, with a front range dating from the 18th to 19th century and a rear wing that is from the 16th or 17th century, or possibly even earlier. The front range is constructed of red brick and features a hipped red tiled roof, along with two red brick chimney stacks. The house is two storeys high and has a three-window range of small paned vertically sliding sashes. The central entrance consists of a two-panel, two-light door with fluted reveals, moulded capitals on the pilasters, a frieze, and a flat canopy. The rear wing is timber framed, consisting of two bays and a chimney bay, with jowled storey posts and stop-chamfered bridging and ceiling joists. Historically, a house named Cokks was situated on this site in 1490 and is shown as Cockes on Norden's map of Essex from 1594.
