Description

The war memorial located on Fronks Road in Dovercourt was built in 1919. It is made of limestone and features bronze plaques and ornamentation. The main structure is cruciform and consists of four aedicules, each supported by dentil-capped pilasters, with a plain entablature and a gabled cornice that encloses a series of bronze plaques. The base of the memorial is an unequal-sided octagon, with an angled square plinth and buttresses that have bronze dolphins at each corner of the main block. Above the aedicules, there are two receding step-like blocks. This memorial honors the Officers and Men of the Royal Naval Reserve, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, Auxiliary Reserve, and Minesweepers, with plaques listing the vessels and lives lost.
