Description

Rose Cottage and an attached former butcher’s shop date from the early 19th century. The building is timber-framed and clad in weatherboards. It has a hipped grey slate roof with red ridge tiles and a moulded eaves cornice supported by brackets. The main facade has three vertically sliding sash windows with glazed margins, and pentice boards to the ground floor. A central glazed door is sheltered by a frieze-moulded canopy on brackets. To the left is a single-storey former shop, also weatherboarded, with a red pantiled roof and bargeboards to the gable returns. This shop features a small, multi-paned window and a timber canopy supported by four iron brackets. A stable-type door is located on the return side. Some original fittings remain within the shop.
