Description
This is a group of 15 tomb-chests located to the east and northeast of the chancel in All Saints' Churchyard. These tomb-chests commemorate members of the Masham family from the manor of Otes and the Cleeve family, dating from 1733 to 1852. Nine of the tomb-chests have stone slabs and brick bases, with one featuring cast iron railings set in the slab. The remaining six are made entirely of stone. One tomb-chest in the northwest corner of the group has a broken slab that has been repaired with iron. The entire group is enclosed by a post and rail fence. The inscriptions on the tomb-chests are mostly obscured by lichen but are largely legible. They have been transcribed in full, and the relationships among the individuals are explained by David Dixon of Moreton, with a copy of the transcription held in the Essex Record Office, accession number 1997.
