Description

The Kings Head Public House is a hall house dating from the 15th century, with alterations made in the 17th and 20th centuries. It is now a public house. The building is timber framed and plastered, with the framing exposed on the outside, and it has a roof covered with handmade red clay tiles. The structure is two storeys high and consists of a hall block aligned approximately northeast to southwest, with an axial chimney stack at each end. There are two crosswings, a rear extension behind the southwest crosswing, and a lean-to extension to the southwest. The side wall of the northeast crosswing has been rebuilt in brick.

The building features three doors and nine casement windows with leaded glazing, all dating from the 20th century. It has jowled posts, and in the southwest crosswing, there is curved tension bracing that is trenched outside the studs. Both crosswings have roofs constructed with crownposts, while the hall block has wall framing with primary straight bracing and introduced bracing in the northeast crosswing. Originally, this building was a late medieval open hall with two crosswings. In the 17th century, the hall was replaced by a two-storey hall block, and extensive reconstruction took place in 1927, which included exposing the framing and inserting much timber.
