Description
This is a tomb dating from 1800, located 5 metres east of St Nicholas's Church. It is designed in the Early English style and constructed from limestone. The tomb features a gabled roof and has three blind trefoil arches at each end, supported by engaged columns with moulded capitals and bases. Each side of the tomb displays six similar arches with a continuous label and foliate stops, and it has a moulded base. The roof is covered with overlapping stone slabs. At the west end of the ridge, there is a cross with diagonal links, and at the east end, there is a damaged Latin cross. The inscription commemorates Mary, the wife of Joseph French of Little Burstead, Essex, who died in 1800. The tomb measures approximately 2.84 metres in length, 1.75 metres in width, and an estimated height of 3.50 metres.
