Description
16, 17, and 17A East Hill are buildings that were constructed in the early 16th century, with a 17th-century wing at the rear. They are two storeys high and have cellars, featuring a timber frame that is plastered, with tiled roofs. The upper storey projects at the front, supported by brackets—one is an original curved bracket, while the other is a later 16th-century shaped bracket. The timber framing is exposed, and there are five original two-light windows under the eaves, which are now blocked and have moulded frames and mullions. The other windows date from the 18th and 19th centuries, and the ground floor includes two small shop hay windows. A notable feature of the front is the impressive 16th-century door, which has 12 moulded panels, each adorned with lozenge-shaped enrichment. The buildings at 15 to 22 East Hill form a group with these properties.
