Description
The Church of St Nicholas, located in Little Wigborough, is a Grade II* listed building dating from the 15th century. It is constructed from rough coursed rubble with limestone dressings and features a red plain tile roof. The late 15th century nave includes an original north doorway with moulded jambs, a two-centred arch, and a label with angel stops. The north and south windows were added in the late 19th century. The south doorway also has moulded jambs, a two-centred arch, and a label; there was previously a south porch that has since been demolished.
The chancel, dating from the 15th century, has an east window with three cinquefoiled lights and vertical tracery set within a two-centred head, complete with a moulded label and angel stops. The north and south walls of the chancel feature extensively restored windows with two cinquefoiled lights in square heads. Additionally, there is a doorway in the south wall with hollow chamfered jambs and a four-centred arch with a modern head.
The church has a three-stage west tower, which has a base from the 15th century and a rebuild from the 19th century above. The tower arch is two-centred with hollow chamfers. The nave roof, dating from the 16th century, includes side purlins. An iron font cover support from 1888, designed by Joseph Clarke, is also present.
