Description

Shemmings Farmhouse is a 15th-century building that was extensively altered in the 16th century. It was originally a hall house and now comprises two gabled cross wings. The construction is timber-framed and plastered, with a red plain tile roof. The north-facing elevation has a five-window range of 19th-century casement windows. A two-storey gabled porch/staircase tower features an early 19th-century entrance door with moulded architraves and a simple flat head. A 15th-century red brick chimney stack is present, featuring four diagonal shafts. A two-storey cross wing style extension has been added to the west end, incorporating a one-window range of 19th-century casement windows and a 19th-century red brick chimney stack.
