Description
The Church of St Andrew is a Grade II* listed building located on Abberton Church Lane. It dates back to the 14th century, featuring a nave with an original two-light window in the north wall. There is a late 14th-century north doorway that has been blocked, with chamfered jambs, a two-centred arch, and a moulded label. A similar doorway and window can be found in the south wall. The chancel, built in the early 19th century, rests on 14th-century foundations and includes a 14th-century two-centred chancel arch. The west tower, constructed in the 16th century from red brick, displays some diapering in flared headers and consists of three stages topped with a modern parapet. It features a two-centred tower arch and a west window with three cinquefoiled lights and vertical tracery set in a two-centred head with a moulded label. The west doorway is made of brick with chamfered jambs and a two-centred arch, while there is a 16th-century door leading to the turret staircase and a 14th-century south door. The porch, added in the 18th century, has a plain red tile roof.
