Description

East Lodge Gate House is a building from the 16th and 17th centuries, featuring a notable 17th-century plaster front. It was constructed for William and Susan Boyes, with William being a baymaker and a mayor. The building has two storeys and attics, with a timber-framed and plastered structure, and tiled roofs. The front is particularly picturesque, showcasing four projecting gables that have moulded bressumers, barge boards, and pendants. The upper storey also projects, supported by a moulded bressumer and brackets, and includes a wall post dated 1680, initialled E W and S at the east end. On the first floor, there are four projecting bay windows, while the ground floor features two projecting bay windows, one entrance bay, and a cart entrance. The plaster on the front is rusticated. East Lodge Gate House is part of a group that includes All Saints House, Grey Friars, Hillcrest, Winsley House, and Nos 83 and 84.
