Description
Nos 69 and 70 on High Street are buildings with origins in the 17th century. They feature a timber-framed and plastered structure with tiled roofs. The front is faced in early 18th-century brick, topped with a coping. The buildings rise three storeys and have a seven-window range on the first floor, which includes double-hung sash windows with glazing bars. There is a moulded brick band between the ground and first floors, although this has been partly removed. The ground floor has undergone some alterations and includes a small shop front at No 70A.
No 69 has an open pediment doorcase with a semi-circular fanlight and a six-panel door. No 70 features a rectangular fanlight with a heavy cornice head and a six-panel door. No 70B has a similar doorcase but is adorned with carved brackets.
These buildings, along with Nos 67 to 75 and No 1 Queen Street, form a cohesive group.
