Description
Nos 25 and 27 North Station Road are shops dating from the 15th century and later. They are timber framed and rendered, featuring two parallel gabled pantiled roofs that are set at right angles to the front. The front elevation of No 25 includes a 20-pane double hung sash window on the first floor above a 20th-century shopfront. No 27 has a 20th-century two-light casement window above its own 20th-century shopfront. The first floor of No 27 now serves as additional space for No 25. This building was originally the jettied, 'high-end' cross wing of a 15th-century merchant's house. The south flank wall contains a high-end bench recess and a moulded bressummer, which are intact and visible from the interior of No 25. The flank wall also has tension bracing (with some infilling missing) and remnants of two windows, one above the jetty and one at the rear. The cross wing was originally composed of three or more bays but has been truncated at the rear. No 25 is a gabled timber framed structure from the 17th or 18th century, built over the site of a former open hall.
