Description
Priors is a mid 16th century red brick moated house that has undergone significant alterations in the 17th and 18th centuries. The south-east cross wing was rebuilt in the 20th century. The building has two storeys and attics, featuring casement windows with leaded lights. The south-west side is likely the original front and may have had a two-storeyed porch, but it was heavily modified in the 18th century. The north-east side, which is now the front, has two small gabled wings that project from the main block, showcasing exposed timber-framing. There is an early 17th century staircase wing with an 18th century extension. The north-west wing contains several original brick mullioned windows, a bay window, and remnants of an original moulded string course. The roof is tiled and includes two segmental-headed dormers on the south-west side, along with an original central chimney stack that has four octagonal shafts and is partly restored, sitting on a square base. Inside, there are notable original features, including a staircase dating from around 1600 and two rooms with 16th to 17th century panelling.
