Description
Benedict Otes is a 17th century, or possibly earlier, timber-framed and plastered house featuring a brick gable wall at the west end and an external chimney stack. The building has undergone considerable alterations and was renovated in the 20th century. It stands two storeys high with attics that are illuminated by windows in the gables. The north front has a three-window range with double-hung sashes that include glazing bars. A 20th century gabled entrance porch is present. The roof is tiled and has a central original chimney stack with six grouped octagonal shafts on a rectangular base, which features a sunk panel inscribed with the date 1644 and the initials JCSC. The west end has a stack with two shafts, and the south side includes one gabled dormer. There are also remains of a moat.
