Description

The stocks at the junction with Stocks Lane in Kelvedon Hatch are a historical feature, likely dating from the 18th century. Made of oak, they consist of two pairs of leg holes and have locking sections that are individually hinged from the center. The original ironwork includes a fixed ring on the upper face of each hinge plate. Currently, the moving top sections are immobilized by a welded end plate that is screwed to the end post. These stocks were originally located on the northwest side of Blackmore Road, opposite their present location.
