Description
School House is an early 19th-century house located on Sabines Road in Navestock. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a low-pitched hipped roof that is slated. The building has two storeys and three wide bays. The windows are sash style with glazing bars, and some contain crown glass. The ground-floor windows have segment-headed arches, all with plain reveals. The doorway is also segment-headed and off-centre, featuring a fielded, panelled door. A dentilled string course runs along the building, and the mortar joints are scribed for tuck pointing.
Inside, the interior is plain and somewhat depleted, with the only notable features being two doors that have Cotterill's Patent door latches. This house served as the residence for the schoolmaster of the school built in 1867 nearby. Local tradition indicates that there may have been an earlier dame school at this location. Additionally, there is a 20th-century conservatory attached to the east side and a kitchen to the south.
