Description

Ganders Hall is a house, originally built in the 17th century or earlier, and altered in the 18th century. It was initially three cottages and later became two. The house is timber-framed, with plaster infill and a roof of handmade red clay tiles. It comprises a four-bay range facing north, featuring an 18th-century axial stack at the left end and another to the left of the right bay. A two-storey rear wing, dating to the 19th or early 20th century, extends from the left end, with an internal stack and a single-storey lean-to at the rear right corner. A 20th-century single-storey extension with a flat roof is located to the rear of the right bay. The front elevation contains a three-window range of 20th-century metal casement windows, alongside two 20th-century half-glazed doors. All other windows are 20th-century metal casements. The original design included one storey with attics. The original wallplates exhibit heavy oak framing, while the framing above reaches approximately one metre and uses reused original tie-beams.

Inside, the two left bays showcase a chamfered transverse beam and plain joists of varying sections. The right bays display chamfered axial beams with run-out stops, joists with ceiled soffits, and 20th-century grates. Most of the timber framing is now covered with plaster. The building was marked as Jeninson on Chapman and Andre’s road map of 1777.
