Description

Swift Cottage is a mid-19th century pair of attached cottages, now combined into a single house. It is located on School Lane in Ingrave, Brentwood. The building is timber-framed and clad in weatherboard, with a slate roof. It has a rectangular plan facing southwest, with a central brick stack. A two-storey wing was added in the 20th century to the rear left, and a single-storey lean-to extension was added to the rear right. The front elevation features two original sash windows on each floor, each with eight panes. Two 20th-century boarded doors, each with a small pane of glass, provide access, and are sheltered by shallow lean-to canopies supported on profiled brackets. The roof is hipped. One original sash window with handmade glass remains in the rear elevation, positioned above the lean-to extension. The 20th-century rear wing contains sash windows of a similar design.
