Description

A pair of attached houses dating from around 1860, altered in the 20th century, are located on Brentwood Road in Herongate. The houses have a timber frame, are clad in weatherboard, and have slate roofs. They are arranged on a rectangular plan facing southwest, with three internal chimney stacks symmetrically arranged along the shared party wall. Number 144, on the left, features a ground-floor sash window with horns and a first-floor sash window with 6 over 6 lights, both original. It has a 20th-century front door. The left elevation of number 144 displays a similar original sash window on each floor, alongside a 4-panel door. Number 146, on the right, has a ground-floor tripartite sash window resembling the one in number 144, but without horns, and a 20th-century casement window on the first floor. It also has a 20th-century front door. The right elevation of number 146 features two 20th-century casement windows on the ground floor and one on the first floor. The roofs are hipped. The houses are notable for their simplicity and lack of later extensions.
