Description

This late 18th and early 19th century house, extended in the 19th century and altered in the 20th century, is now used as two shops and an office. The building is timber-framed and has a plastered facade of red brick in a Flemish bond, with a roof of handmade red clay tiles. It consists of a rectangular main range facing northwest, with two adjacent rear wings, the left wing being longer than the right. A single-storey extension from the 20th century connects the left wing to another building.

The main range has two storeys with attic wings of two storeys. The ground floor features a 20th-century double shopfront with two glazed doors leading to a central recessed entrance, beneath a continuous early 20th-century fascia. The first floor has three late 19th-century sash windows of four lights, set within original openings, with flat arches of gauged brick and projecting keystones. There is also a 20th-century casement window within a flat-roofed dormer. Corner pilasters of rubbed brick are topped with ovolo stone capitals. The building has a modillioned and moulded cornice, a rebuilt plain parapet with stone coping, and a Mansard roof.

The brickwork on the right return is rounded below the first floor, projecting and supported on an ovolo moulded brick corbel above, and the entire first floor projects slightly over a foot access, with a plaster coving above. The brickwork reaches the first floor, with plastering above. There is a rear access from the churchyard to an office on the first floor of the left rear wing. The building is included on the list for its group value.
