Description
The Freman monument is located in the churchyard of the Church of All Saints in East Horndon, Brentwood. It consists of a rectangular railed enclosure measuring 3 meters by 3.5 meters, situated 6 meters west of the church. The enclosure features a stone base with spear-topped railings. Inside, there are three 18th-century tombs made of Portland stone, each with plain, slightly coped slabs. The headstones are similar in design, featuring a central shouldered semicircle and side scrolls. Below the central headstone, there is a semi-draped figure leaning on an urn with foliage on either side. The central headstone stands approximately 1.6 meters high, while the side headstones are lower, at about 1.25 meters high. The inscriptions on the headstones are now mostly illegible, but the name "Freman" can still be read on the northern headstone. The Freman monument, along with the Church of All Saints and the stabling, forms a group of historical significance.
