Description
The Brick House Hotel is a hotel that was originally a house, dating from the early 18th century. It features a double pile design with a timber-framed range at the rear, which may date back to the early 17th century. The building was refenestrated in the early 19th century and has a 19th-century range to the right, along with a 20th-century extension at the rear left.
The front range is constructed of red brick with some black brick headers and has an old tiled mansard roof, while the rear range has a gabled roof with end brick stacks. The hotel is two storeys high and has three windows, primarily featuring 16-pane sash windows, with a 12-pane central sash in a cased frame. There are three original pedimented dormers, with the central dormer containing a sash window and the others having casement windows.
The façade includes a wooden modillion cornice, a brick band between the storeys, and a plinth. The central doorcase is adorned with a pediment, fluted Doric pilasters, a frieze, and a dentilled cornice. Stone steps lead up to the front door, which is surrounded by iron railings.
The rear range has a rendered wall over timber framing, with side gabled walls that have been refronted in brick to match the front range. A gabled rear projection houses the entrance and stairs, with a stack located to the south of the rear entrance. Attached to the side wall is a section of curved wall that supports 18th-century railings across the entire width of the 18th-century range.
