Description

Bay's Farmhouse is a house that dates back to the 16th century, with extensions added in the 17th century and early 19th century. It is timber framed and plastered, with a roof made of handmade red clay tiles and slate. The building has three to four bays facing southeast. The 17th-century extension is located at the rear of the right end, with a small extension to the left of this rear end. An early 19th-century extension features an internal stack to the left of the main range.

The farmhouse has two storeys. On the ground floor, there is one early 19th-century sash window with eight lights and crown glass, one 20th-century casement window, and one 18th-century three-light window with wrought iron casement, rectangular leading, and early glass. The first floor contains two similar early 19th-century sashes and two similar 18th-century three-light windows. There are also two six-panel doors with shallow hoods. The roof of the left extension has a shallow pitch and is hipped and slated, while the remainder of the roof is tiled.

The right return of the main range jetties out, supported by two plain brackets. The left return of the left extension has three early 19th-century sashes similar to those at the front. The rear elevation features one window with twelve lights on the ground floor and one with sixteen lights on the first floor, all with crown glass. The rear of the main range has two 18th-century windows on the first floor, one with three lights and the other with one light, both with wrought iron casements and rectangular leading. The interior was not inspected in October 1984, but previous reports indicate the presence of jowled posts, cambered tiebeams, and curved braces.
